Dr. Bobs Adventure

We've created this blog for several reasons. First is to keep family and friends(including Bobs' pts.)informed of Bobs' condition while he undergoes treatment for Acute Myelogenous Leukemia(AML) at HUP. You may also write to Bob by posting a comment, which I'll print for him to read. Please feel free to pass this blog site on to anyone you think may want to join us.Instructions to blog are listed under day 12, and bobs' address etc are under day 14. Hello from Bob

a week home, 10 days of antibioticsand iam starting to feel better. the x-rays of my neckshowed severe arthritis and disc disease with several pitched nerves. at least that explains all the pain i have had. my current combination of meds have reduced the pain; and ihve not had to take as many pain killers.many of the treatment options are closed to me, but ihave asked Dr.L if there is any physical therapy i can do. now i have a iv catheter in my left arm which i can cover and tke shower. this is great!!! i had to take bird baths for the last three months. in 10 days i meet with Dr. L; and we will see the next course of therapy. thank you for your prayers and comments. love bob

hey bob, it's good to hear from you buddy. glad to hear that the meds are giving you a measure of relief. when i think of your neck pain, my mind searches for an occupational hazzard and i see you listening to heart sounds intently and banging knees with the little rubber reflex hammer. when you picture those tasks, it usually involves a drooping head on the part of the m.d. whaddya think? well, whatever the dilly, i'm glad to hear you are feeling better. throw in a shower and i know you are looking fabulous! i took my birthday boy shaun to the texas roadhouse tonight. food was really good. they even have some entertainment from time to time. bring your hearing aid though, willie nelson is omnipresent throughout the meal. bob, i know you appreciate brevity and i get the feeling that i lost you mid blog, so next time i see you, there will be a brief quiz....xoxoxoxoxoxoox

ps. when i was with my friend in hup's er yesterday, i was so very glad that you or deb were not in the house. more xo's km

So glad to hear from you Dr. Bob. I'm sorry that your neck pain is so severe, but happy the current regimen of pills is easing the pain a little bit. What a joy to be able to shower again! I know that must be a welcome relief. No deck time for you this week I imagine. It is hotter than the Sahara desert here - triple digits! The babies don't tolerate the heat too well so we're stuck indoors which can make for some very long days. Hoping the summer will cool off a bit soon and that you and Mo will be able to get some R&R. Take care of your neck and Mo's shoulder - some couples pt may be in order! Kind of picturing the side by side table massages they do for couples on their honeymoons...wouldn't that be nice for you both? Have a good week and keep us posted on your progress. Love you guys!

Hey Bob-

Well. That severe arthritis, disc disease and pinched nerves sure explains all the neck pain you have been experiencing! It might be time to start the GIN SOAKED RAISIN cure, don't you think? (Although I have heard the rumor that gin will make you sin.)

That first shower must have been true bliss, eh? Have never heard a limited bath called a bird bath before - we used to call it a PTA bath. I'll leave it to Mrs. Teklits to fill you in on what PTA means!

Take care of yourself and our gal, Ms. Mo. I continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Cheers (and a gin soaked raisin back) K

Cheers - K

I went to my cousin Nick's 50th wedding anniversary. He tells me he has coming up (A) An aortic valve replacement and 3 vessel bypass (B)cataracts (C)total knee both sides. He is one year older than me(no wise ass remarks please) To paraphrase my grandmother " vechhia enagaronia" which best translates as old age sucks. In any event it's good to see you personally making entries. Good sign methinks. Love Cozz

Well,Mazzola, you must be better since I think you have blogged your ownself!
Hope you find a therapeutic regime for your neck -alternative or otherwise. This old nurse is sitting here remembering conversations about certain members of the Medical Staff being a "pain in the neck". I might have even kept a list. Hmmmm...I think it was pretty much restricted to the Department of Surgery though. Also hope your WBCs and RBCs and all the other little things in and around them remain stable.
Every day is a gift, every single day. Sometimes we have to remember that the hard way.
You and my dear Mo are in my thoughts and prayers daily. Tiamo/sjs

Dr. Mazzola, Glad to hear that you are home. We are keeping you, and Mo, in our thoughts and prayers.
I understand you like to go to the Mainland Inn. It's one of our favorites also. Hope to see you there.

Hi Dr. Mazzola,
It is nice to read a blog from you. Too bad about your neck. We just got back from Canada. We went up to attend a 100th birthday party for my husband's grandfather! I hope you have power at your house. We had none for 15 hours, but it is back now. I am so glad you can shower now. Bird baths just aren't the same. Linda V.
